I consider this a devotional
This book is a collection of vignettes, stories, free verse centering black joy and imaginations. You can tell it is lovingly curated by Natasha Marin. After reading through this I consider it a devotional....it will have a special place on my nightstand from now on.

Vulnerable & Beautiful
My review could never do the book justice. Natasha has always symbolized community and this is yet another example. I enjoyed every courageous, thought provoking word. A must read!

Readable
Bought as a gift. Was received with joy. So nice that the excerpts are short and from a wide range of people. A truly great concept!

This book was largely antagonistic. There were a few thoughtful and poignant entries, but not not enough to justify the purchase.

The best book I've read this year
Very intimate. If this appeals to you at all, get it. I am of a mixed background, none of which is black, so some cultural references were likely lost on me. But as someone who has often felt "outside" because I'm not black at all and live in the south, and not fully white like so many around me, and not full blooded Asian like half of my family, I could relate to many concepts expressed in this work of art.

Impressive and Important Body of Work
Truly a collection fo beautiful written works that speak to existence that we as black people have desired for generations. It speaks to the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual spaces that blacks can only be in via their imagination. I think readers from young and old will find a lot of solace and comfort in this body of work. It's the sum of all its parts. Natasha Marin has done a super job gathering and curating this and I can't wait for the next volume.
