Just buy it!

Awesome feed bag for feeding my horses in the pasture and in their stalls. One of my horses chews with his mouth open and likes to tip his bucket over and shove it all over the ground. He was wasting soooo much feed and supplements....and money. I was also trying to put weight on him when I first got this for him. I thought that maybe this way, he would actually be getting the calories he needed. Ever since starting this feed bag, it’s a god send! Now he can’t throw his grain all over the place and waste it and he isn’t eating directly off the ground and sifting through the dirt while he’s trying to get the pieces he flung all over the place. Now, it’s conveniently just sitting in the bag all in one spot for him to get every last pellet! I could tell he was gaining weight so much more quickly when I started this. It also helps with other horses if they are pastured with others who might get run off their feed. My other horse is a little mare who is one of them. She doesn’t ew as fast and without this, she probably only gets about 1/2 of her ration before another horse takes her over. So, she is very happy to wear this at feed time. She knows she gets to finish all of her feed and doesn’t have to worry when the other ones come over to her to sniff her bag. She doesn’t get bullied...if anything, the other horse will lick the outside of her bag while she eats it lol. This way she is also getting her full ration and her supplements. I use my feed bag in the stall for my other horse I talked about first simply because he’s a terribly messy eater with horrendous table manners. It works for him and I’m happy that I know he’s getting everything I put in there. He doesn’t mind wearing it at all either. My big guy is a very large warm blood and wears the draft size. It’s nice and big and fits a lot of feed in there. Someone asked how many scoops and I would say, you can comfortable fit around 4 standard 3 qt. feed scoops in there with the horses head in there. If u just want to know how many scoops to fill the bag to the to, I’d guess around 6 scoops. So just to give an idea, it’s large. The horse size I use for my mare who is a small Arab/quarter cross and normally wears cob size gear. I originally ordered the pony one for her thinking it would fit better than the horse size after seeing the draft size. Wrong...the pony size is so itty bitty, it was laughable when I opened it, I’m not sure it wold even hold a full scoop ....maybe just barely but it would be filled to the very brim and no where for the horse to put its mouth. So, I ordered the horse size and it’s perfect for her. It’s quite a bit smaller than the draft size...probably about double. I would say it can hold around 2 scoops. My friend has a TB, so he has a much more narrow head than my warm blood but she bought the draft size because she mixes her grain and mash together and it wouldn’t fit in the horse size so she got the draft one. The only problem with that is that if it is heavy, it falls right off his head because his head isn’t as wide as the strap placements are. If it’s just his grain, he normally wears it the whole time without issue but with his mash mixed in, it’s pretty heavy and it just comes off pretty much the moment he puts his head down.As for durability, I’ve had mine for probably 9 months now and my draft size has been beat up quite a bit and I’ve had to stitch up some seams ... the stitching also came loose on one of the sides where the strap is sewn to the actually bag part. I just did a quick fix by using a small zip tie and tying it tight to the bag. U can also sew it. Most recently, the mesh on the bottom has started to come lose from the bottom portion of the bag s there is a small hole that’s gonna need to be fixed soon. I am going to be purchasing a new one though since it’s done it’s job for almost a year and I feel $20 is worth it for knowing my horses are getting their feed. The horse size one for my mare is holding up fabulously, she’s had hers for around 6-7 months and hers has not had any rips or tears at all. She’s also a lot more gentle with her things though ;) lol.Cleaning them is kind of a pain...it’s not too bad if you’re feeding grain only (pellet or textured). But it can get pretty grody if u strat having to wet down the food at all ... which brings me to another point...if u happen to forget to take the bag off, they are still able to drink water with it on! But if your horse likes to be a butthead and dunk it in the water tank with feed still in it, it’s pretty nasty lol. When mine get it wet and soggy, I drain the water out and then leave it outside hanging up to let it dry. Usually is pretty much dry by the next day. If u put mash or soaked alfalfa in with their feed into the bag, it works fine but it just gets the mesh kinda clogged up and messy...so either u can rinse it out after every use (but that would be a major pain in the butt) or just wack it against something to get as much of the hunk out of it as u can. As long as u clean it good a couple times per week, I’d say you’re good to go. And like I said, if it’s on,y dry feed you are putting in there, it doesn’t get very messy at all and would only need to be cleaned if your horse is a butt and throws it around and stomps on it after hes done eating out of it like my friends horse (tb wearing the draft size that slides off). He basically murdered his out in the muddy pasture recently .... it needs a good cleaning before it can be used again lol.Anyways, love the bag, good for so many different scenarios ... safe and easy to use.

this is a sturdy feed bag, stiff mesh that allows easy air flow

This feed bag is so sturdy, and my horse adapted to it almost immediately. Now that expensive feed and supplements all go into my horse instead of being dribbled on the ground, and he cannot be pushed off of his feed. Love it - should have used one years ago!

Life saver!

I bought two of these to feed my horses while in the pasture. I scoop 6 quarts and supplements into it and feed each of them. In the beginning, they can eat the top portion while standing, but after several bites, they need to support the bottom of the bag with the ground to reach the feed. This is great for their natural positioning. I have had this for several months and use it daily and they are still holding up great, albeit dirty. My senior horse will also stick her face in the water bucket with it on if I don't get it off right when she's done. The sides do let water in so she can still get a drink. I am thankful for the person who recommended these to me!

Design change is not great...

I've used Cashel feed bags for years with a number of different horses. Some of the bags have lasted for years. My newest one, however, has a different design in how the bottom is attached to the bag with the seam inside. This causes grain to get stuck in the fold/crack. This drives my mare crazy knowing that there's more grain, but she can't get at it. She's actually starting to chew at the bottom edge and has dragged the bag across the ground to get at the stuck grain. This has resulted in the seam being pulled apart on the outside. I stay with her and remove the bag as soon as she's done eating. In spite of this, I need to replace it after only 4 months because of her shenanigans to try to get the stuck grain...

I love this bag.

I have been using this bag for a couple of years and it is still holding up. I like the fact it has a pouch in the back to prevent spills when the horse shakes his head. Easy to put on and my horse comes running when he sees it.

Good purchase

One of the higher quality feed backs I’ve come across. Nice size with quality mesh that I can tell won’t rip apart right away. Would recommend to any of my horse friends

It’s really nice, I’ll buy again

Tried it out today. My horse figured it out instantly. It it padded so your horse doesn’t rub their nose. The water proof black lining extends a little at the bottom so you don’t have to worry about soaked feed dripping or getting out. The ring at the top(where the padding is) is very sturdy, it’s solid and holds it shape well. The colour is nice too, I’m sure I could find it if my horse lost it. Only thing that bad is that the strap takes some time adjusting. Although I have seen people add a leather buckle to fix this. Came quickly too! I will update if it doesn’t hold up well

Nécessaire mais pas durable

Très utile pour nourrir plusieurs chevaux chacun avec leur panier mais pas très résistants

Very sturdy. Put together well

Ripped and Ripped Off

Side separated from the bottom after a week of use. Horse was stall bound and monitored while using it and removed immediately after feeding. Mesh did not hold up and stitches let go.
