Roxy Music - Essential - CD Review: Great sampler in pristine sound quality - a class compilation that belies its budget price (and hence budget packaging!) - Essentially this does exactly what it should, and most tracks appear to be remastered (probably from the 1999/2000 albums). The selection is not the usual greatest hits, but includes enough of them to run very nicely, and allow the album tracks space in their alternative surroundings. The artwork is pretty basic, with no notes atall, but the music, and selection and work by the compilers, is all excellent. Having a couple of good quality live recordings to finish things off is a nice touch, and allows you to avoid Jealous Guy if covers like that are not your bag! Highly recommended budget compilation spanning their entire catalogue, even if you have more comprehensive box sets already. Review: Dance Away ... - I really like this compilation, basically everything I wanted it to be and a bit more. The added bonus is the single version of Dance Away, which is different to the Manifesto album version, something I wasn't aware of since I didn't get into Roxy Music when I was a lot younger. Plus there's the live version of Jealous Guy.

I really like this compilation, basically everything I wanted it to be and a bit more. This is an excellent collection and I prefer this tracklisting to other compilations out there on Roxy Music. Now, I wouldn't exactly consider it the complete "essential" as I hold Country Life to be the band's best album. The only song from Country Life here is "All I want is You." But I already have Country Life (and the live album Viva!) and wanted something to compile the rest of the great tracks I wanted. Essential does a great job filling in all of those other tracks. It's the mix I wanted. ' The highlight is that it includes the album mix of "Angel Eyes" rather than the (imo) much inferior remix that tends to be popular on other compilations. I'm not sure about the covers included here ("In the Midnight Hour" and "Jealous Guy") but the rest is all stellar.
