Literature: Approaches to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama provides a wide-ranging introduction to the study of literary forms. While it impressively covers a broad spectrum of works, its depth of analysis varies significantly between the different genres, making the overall approach somewhat inconsistent. The sections on fiction and poetry are particularly well-done, offering insightful interpretations and useful guidelines for critical reading. However, the portion on drama is notably weaker, lacking the same level of detailed exploration.

i know it's a textbook but it's actually fun to read and very diverse. a textbook i can read daily, worth having around!

I needed this book for my summer literature class and my college was out of rentals. Ordered this book and within a couple of days I had it. Is this book outdated? Absolutely, but that’s not the sellers fault! Is the writing style of the collection a little weird? You bet. I still needed it and I still got it.

It was a second edition, my class wanted sixth. I had to look up the stories in the glossary, but it worked for me. Only a small few of the required reading were not in the book, but those were easy to find online. I almost didn't need the book because of the internet. I got 100% on my quizzez and the stories, plays and poems were interesting. The book does explain some things that are important to the class and helped me learn about writing. Oh, my book did not come with the cd... so I don't know if it is useful or not. I am expecting, at lowest, a B in this class.

I was a new student this year and purchasing books was just as new. I was grateful to be able to purchase my books online and for less money. I do wish however that I would have been aware of the previous marked or highlighted sections within the book, as they had bled through the pages. I did however recievd my books in a very timely manner and for that reason alone I would purchase from this seller again or in the future.Thank You so much!!

The book is very poorly organized. The table of contents are extremely unhelpful; you'll often find yourself struggling to find what you want. The paper which composes the book is also extremely flimsy and as a result, the condition of your book will decline rapidly. Furthermore, a lot of the content within the book is uninteresting and even tedious to read. "Intentional" grammatical errors are found throughout the book, or at least I hope they're intentional. It frustrates me how grammatical errors that decrease the reader's enjoyment of the book are now so common. I believe this to be a misinterpretation of "prose." The word has been spun so much. Authors cheat their way with "prose" to make their writings "unique" with minimal effort.

I bought this book instead of buying the 2nd edition. I figured it would be exactly the same. It isn't. It has a lot of the same stories but some are missing, like "The Lottery." Luckily it's a book of short stories, so the stories that are missing you can get online. The price is worth the work. It's half the price of the new book. A paper back book is not worth 58 dollars. Buy this look up the other stories.Plus it's easy to navigate.

Very intriguing book. Even though i bought it for class, there are a ton of interesting short fictions and poems. There are several stories from popular authors such as Hemmingway, Allan Poe, Burns, Dickenson, and so on. Plus there are short questions at the end of each story/poem, so you can have a good review over what you've read. The book is not that large; it's a little larger than a half sheet of binder paper, so not too heavy, but bulky because of the condensed size. Furthermore, papers inside are thin like those in a bible at church, therefore it can rip easily if you turn the paper too quickly or strong like me. However, it's still a great book.
