Works as advertised, very pleased. 20+yr old rust mostly removed with 2 treatments.

Works as advertised. I had a gate that had 23yrs of old paint and rust with no care ever. Sprayed on a heavy coat and let it sit for 30-45min. Then rinsed off and it removed 75% of the rust. Waited overnight and hit it again tonight and this go around it took off 90% of the remaining rust leaving only some small patches that may be rust or sun cooked paint (Phoenix area) that need to be hit lightly with a wire brush.Definitely worth the 2 bottle investment to prep the gate for new wood slats and paint.

I would recommend

Very efficient. Wet the surface, spray gel on, spread it with a brush, wait 20 minutes sometimes 30 minutes and cleaned off. Does an excellent job. Not perfect but wow it makes the job a whole lot quicker.

Does work fairly well

Used this stuff on some old farm equipment that had some pretty heavy rust and it did indeed dissolve some of it. I had relatively low expectations but high hopes and this stuff worked much better than I expected. It is by no means a cure all for severe rust, some additional cleaning, chipping, etc. will be needed, but this stuff does quite well to finish up rust. It also turns the area a blackish color which is supposed to help prevent further oxidation. Not a great cosmetic look but should clean off fairly easily with a wire brush and allow for later painting if needed. I will be keeping a bottle on hand to use intermittently.

Works very well

I had quite a lot of rust to take off a 2.5 foot high metal statue. Using a tip from Chat GPT, I bought this stuff. It worked very well and removed the rust. It took work and repeated applications and an old toothbrush, but the rust is gone. There was no odor or color to it. It is a gel but it is a tiny bit runnier than I would have liked, so I had to stuff and tape paper towels under the areas I treated sothe gel didn't run off. Because there is no color to the gel, I found I needed to mark the areas I treated as Went, which I did with a small piece of tape gently stuck next to the treated area, in order not to miss removing the gel when it was time. In all, I found it to be a good product that accomplished what I needed it to.

Don’t use on wood fire place

I bought this to remove the rust on my wood fireplace. Assuming it was cast iron as most fire places are. If you do not have a cast iron one this will remove everything and go to silver!I did give it 3 stars instead of 1 because it did remove the rust very speedy time which it’s suppose to so it did its job but needs a warning to make sure the fire place is cast iron before using.

Wear skin protection..

This product is amazing on garden as well as hand tools. I tried it on my truck rims and it was not as smooth as I expected. But I do think I A. Didn’t leave it on long enough (20 mins) and B. Rinsed it of a little harder than just a hose.. still giving it an A..

There is no discernable evidence that the product works as advertised

I recently had to use and try a variety of products to loosen the zinc plated steel slide mechanism used in my filing cabinets...I should preface that due to heavy moisture environment that the cabinets were stored in the past few years, the rust problem was severe...I could not open the cabinets even with great force. The problem was the file slide mechanism w/ ball bearings were so corroded that the slide mechanism simply did not yield to any normal yanking/pulling force. Given the aforementioned, I tried a variety of products, including Rust-Oleum, Liquid Wrench, Naval Jelly rust removal, and of course the usual household lubricants such as 3 in 1 oil, WD-40, graphite, liquid Teflon and whatever lubricants I had around the house. I had high hopes for Rust-Oleum as it is more expensive and more "professional " sounding. The Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver Gel acted the part by generating a "foaming" action on the rusted part, but after multiple tries I cannot detect any rust removal, meaning the corroded metal looked pretty much the same as before and tiny protrusions of rust were still intact on the glide surfaces. After multiple applications over a few days, the slide mechanism was still stuck and despite being yanked very hard in an attempt to free up the frozen parts, I could not get the slide mechanism to move even a few millimeters after multi days of Rust-Oleum applications. Using a rag to remove residual Rust-Oleum , and WD40, it appeared that the WD40 ( which also failed to work to loosen the stuck glide system, actually showed more rust ( judging by the color and residue on on the rag) particles were removed than the Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver. In conclusion, Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver performed miserably or not at all. Very disappointing indeed.
