desertcart.com: The Sense of Wonder: A Celebration of Nature for Parents and Children eBook : Linda J. Lear Rachel L. Carson, Lear, Linda: Kindle Store Review: For Everyone—With or Without a Kid - Wonderful short essay accompanied by plenty of beautiful pictures. Absolutely inspiring. It sharpens our senses to feel and coexist with what’s around us, discovering new findings that are always there but that we usually miss. The narratives flow powerfully yet gently, like a gleaming river, with Carson’s artistic mastery. It stimulates your natural ability to reminisce, and also takes your brain to nature instantly in every direction—you can smell the woods or the ocean while you’re in your bedroom reading it. The book is written in a style that guides children, but I'd say it's actually for everyone. Reading it unhurriedly gives me an effect similar to meditating. It’s my bible. Review: Little book with a huge lesson! Read this, then go outside and rediscover the world if nature. - I think I read this book in under 15 minutes. The photos are fantastic and reminded me of how beautiful it is on the coast of Maine. This is a great read for parents of young children who want to instill the greatest gift of all in their children. Literally a "sense of wonder". It's so easy in every day life to lose connection with nature, with the cosmos. This book is brief (due to the author's untimely death) but gets the point across. I am so lucky to have had a mother who did the exact same thing for me. I don't ever her "teaching" me what the names of things were, but later in life discovered that I knew more than most people and knew it was because my mother instilled a sense of wonder "and" curiosity.

Important reminder
This book is an important reminder to retain a sense of wonder and connection with the more than human world that surrounds us. Take a moment to marvel at the world around you, no matter where you are.

Beautiful book for anyone who loves children and nature.
This is a wonderful book about children and nature, but more deeply, about maintaining for yourself and the others in your life the delight, suprise and awe one feels when seeing things as a child does for the first time - a sense of wonder. It is written in lovely prose that really creates the feeling that you are being made privy to the spontaneous thoughts of the author as she traversed the natural world with her little nephew. The photographs are beautiful renderings of found still lives and landscapes, well-photographed by Nick Kelsh. I did think that the prints of the photographs were a little lurid in spots, but it doesn't distract too much from the beauty of the overall product. This book was written by Rachel Carson before she died, and never truly finished. There is an older version of this book, again, with photographs that "Rachel Carson would have wanted" and it's interesting to compare the two. I recommend this book highly for anyone who loves children and nature, and values the powers of observation of the world around them.

A Must-Read for All Parents and Friends of Children
Rachel Carson, the “Mother of the Modern Environmental Movement” wrote this book to share her experiences on how to preserve a child’s innate sense of wonder about the natural world, a sense that often otherwise fades as the child grows up. If preserved and encouraged, this sense can be a lifelong gift that brings joy and delight to daily life. It’s a short but beautiful read. Like all her writing it is both lucid and evocative.

I want to leave 10 stars!
What a bit of luck. instead of ordering a new edition I checked the box for a used copy and this book is filled with beautiful photographs and of course Rachael Carlson’s wise word. a beautiful edition that is likely out of print as it was published 25 years ago. thank you seller for passing this rare and beautiful book on for others to enjoy!

Thought provoking and inspiring book
This short and insightful writing by Rachel Carson.is a pioneering work on the value human connection with nature. It has been a guiding light in my horticultural therapy work for decades. The sense of wonder she speaks of can make a dynamic difference in not only every child but for individuals with developmental, physical, mental and emotional challenges, including those with of us with depression or dementia, including Alzheimer's. She describes a walk in nature as a journey of discover. This sparks the imagination and creativity. Strongly recommend this book to anyone seeking an escape from stress, or simply seeking a place to share discoveries with another human being. Any hospital healing garden, botanical garden or backyard can become a place to experience the sense of wonder she so vividly describes.

Lovely
This is a lovely short essay by the wise and deep Rachel Carson. The presentation is enlarged and complicated by beautiful pictures that become as much interruptions as illustrations of Carson's text. It's a pretty little - very little - book. With beautiful photography. I wonder if it was made to present Carson as much as to present the photographer.

This book was chosen as a course reading. Though I knew who Rachel Carson was I knew nothing about this book. For me it was a transforming book as I was reminded about how important it is never to lose a sense of wonder in our lives. Originally publishe as a magazine article in the '40's, it has lost none of its impact. In the book, graced as it is with superb photographs, Carson speaks about teaching her nephew about looking and seeing the changes and diversity of creatures, birds, sunsets and storms on the Maine coast. A great gift for parents with new children and new grandparents.

El libro es bonito. Lo acompañan unas fotos preciosas. Es de bolsillo, que está genial, pero la edición es muy pobre. Me esperaba algo más cuidado.
