Simply Amazing
I had been using a 3.25 HP Porter Cable router mounted on a table with a lift. Larger bits had to be handled very carefully to prevent splits and kick backs, forcing me to have to make numerous passes in some cases. Wanting to be able to make raised panel doors and knowing my experience with (relatively speaking) smaller bits, I was skeptical that the router could handle it. I had become convinced that a shaper cutter, not a router bit, is what I needed to be able to make clean cuts in one pass. After ordering this item, I bought the accessory to allow me to run router bits on this shaper. For comparison, I tried out several of the larger bits I had trouble with in the past. Same bit, same stock, and immediately I got professional results far better than anything I had seen before using a router. I had always heard that a shaper was "a different animal" from routers, but I didn't realize how different. The bigger motor, slower rpm and much greater torque along with a much heavier tool will make it easy for you to finally get your money's worth out of router bits and shaper cutters alike.A few observations:- This thing is heavy, greatly reducing vibration- When you turn in on, it has an immediate full-speed hum, the pitch of which is virtually unchanged when put under a load.- The safety arms / material guides are very strong but a little tedious to adjust- I spent less for this shaper (< $800 at the time) than I had on my router table rig over the years.- It took me months to decide whether I should buy this. Glad I bought it!

Great shaper / router
First off, after reading all the negative reviews here regarding the shipping problems, I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about having this shaper shipped to me. Well, although the box arrived with a large crease on one side, the unit inside was perfect, and it was placed in my garage by a friendly UPS driver. Now to the review... 1st off, I'm using this unit as a router table. This shaper is about the same cost as a comparative cast iron router table this size with a good router - but the fence assemble is sooo much better than any router table I've seen. It's solid and immovable once set. This unit was also given the "best budget" shaper in an 2015 article <<http://www.bestcovery.com/best-shaper>> The biggest factor for me to go to a shaper as opposed to a router table for my routing needs was NOISE. I really don't like the noise level of router with their universal motors. This unit has an induction motor, as all shapers do, and they are sooo much quieter. My unit was produced in 10/2018, and I was very impressed with it's powder coated finish, all hardware supplied, the flatness of the table, and fence brackets perfectly square. I did have an issue squaring the fence to the miter slot making sure they were parallel. Once set up, I noticed the fence had shifted, after aligning them again, it again shifted out of parallel. I then called Woodstock, and got an immediate answer. The manual (picture #2) only says to move and reposition the cap screw to the end of the fence ram tube (the 6 o'clock position). It does not mention to tighten the other set screws at the 12, 3, & 9 o'clock positions with an allen wrench (see picture #3). To tighten these set screws, you'll have to loosen the nut (jam nut) and tighten with an allen wrench - make sure the ram tube is not shifting as you tighten them. Once set, your fence is like Gibraltar - not gonna move, and will remain parallel with the miter. Oh,... I did have to scrape off some powder coat drips from the bottom of the machined fence adjustment brackets. I really like this shaper/router!

Poor quality
Spindle housing contains the threads for height adjustment. Always lubricated, never clogged up, gib adjusted properly yet it stripped out in 2 1/2 years. $115 for part but it's backordered and Grizzly gave me an estimate delivery of about 9 months (probably because everyone's is failing). 9 months of downtime is absurd and unacceptable, I'll never buy Grizzly again.

Great mid-size shaper
I debated for about 4 months whether to buy this or the 3hp version. I settled on this and am happy that I did. It arrived with a few scratches on the base but no actual damage. It was easy to clean off and assemble. I converted it to 110 following the manual and it purred to life. I also bought the router bit attachment since I don't own any shaper cutters yet. It installed in about 2 minutes after the 1 minute it took to take off the back panel. This shaper screams through oak, cherry, pine, maple, you name it. The pleasant hum you hear doesn't even change pitch slightly as you feed wood through it. I was able to adjust the fence to within .001 of the miter-slot with a dial-gauge and about 2 mins of tap-n-check. I'm so glad I bought this.

tiwanese junk
spindle lock does not keep the cutters from adjusting themselves slightly between each cut . limited to dia. of cutters and must use router bits for doing ogee style raised panels because the regular cutter size is too large a dia. to use on this machine. it is hard to lock the key way into place after you change spindle pulley's ( different pulleys for router bits and shaper cutters allowing you to change the speed of the cutter head) , because of the limited space to get into to tighten things up. adjustment handle for the cutter height will occasionally come off and is a bugger to get back on and tighten also due to again limited space and position of the set screw . my best advise to you buy a jet or any other brand than shop foxhad looked at other brands when purchasing this. due to lack of funds went with what I thought was cheaper model. after being hit with delivery charges this unit cost me about $30 more than a jet would have and at the time delivery was already included in the price for them
