Recommended for beginners.

Great book for beginners. If you are a professional you obviously wouldn't be buying this book, So why give it a low rating?

Outstanding!

The problem with a book/CD set such as this is that there are bound to be some tunes you want to learn to play and some about which you're lukewarm. These are, however, accurate transcriptions in notation and tablature of real bass lines from rock standards. The play-along CD is outstanding, and the software that's included--which allows the user to change tempo without changing pitch (they must use MIDI files) is absolutely first rate. The pitch is outstanding (unlike one of the R&B volumes which was not recorded at A=440). The only minor complaint is, with music notation, chord symbols, and tablature, some of these songs go on for several pages: the page turns break continuity too much.

Just good fun for all levals of playing

both musical notation and Tab seem to be right on to the original songs note for note and the backing cd is well doneThis would be perfect for a advanced beginner for a extra challengeThis book and all the others from this collection is good for board bass players like my self who have been playing for over 30 years but dont play with a band any more the backing tracks with and with out the bass make it fun for me.

Don't buy used!!!!

I bought this used, and when I got it in it was missing the CD, which is a crucial part of the reason why I purchased this. The ad never said anywhere that this was missing the CD. It actually said it came with it.This is misleading and I am very dissapointed. Not a happy customer at all and will leave the appropiate feedback to the seller as well.I bought two of these from the hal leonards series used...both from different sellers. The other one came with the CD. This seller was hippo_books (Thrift Recycling Management)

Not the greatest tunes, but worth a look.

This is a little advanced for a beginner, but I would still recommend it for any bass player's library. The transcriptions are high quality and the CD is fun to play with. I think whether or not you will like this book depends on whether the 8 tunes selected are the ones you want to learn & play.

A waste of money

I have to say that I was sorely disappointed. The quality is about what I expected. No surprise there. The transcriptions are accurate but the performaces are kind of lifeless. As I said that was expected. The problem is that there are no vocal tracks. What gives? Sure you can learn these songs by listening and following along. But I can do that by just pulling my CD's off the shelf and listening to and playing along with them. The first track for each song does just what it is supposed to do, it presents the song with the bass part emphasized to make it easier to learn, but no vocals. OK it is easier to hear the bass part that way. I can accept that. But when it is time to play along you want the whole band there. Don't waste your money. You can buy a cd you like all the songs on and then buy the book or find the transcriptions on the internet. This morning I bought this and it is already in the trash bin. If it had said on the cover that there were no vocal tracks I would not have bought it.

The Joker by Steve Miller & Come Together by the Beatles are on the same page.

My copy of this book has a serious problem with the order that the page numbers have "Come Together." Page 28 jumps to page 25 The centre of the book is page 26 and the next page is not 27 but page 31. Page 32 is followed by page 29 and Page 30 is followed by page 33. The Joker by Steve Miller is mixed up with Come Together by the Beatles. This takes playing the Bass to a different method. Buyer beware. Can I have a refund?
