Racing Car Design and Development

I first read this book in the early 70's when I was building a Corvette for SCCA racing. Len Terry, at that time, was a well established English race car designer for F1, Indy, F500 and Cam-Am. He worked with Lotus, Dan Gurney's Eagle, Carroll Shelby and many others. Len Terry had his own way of looking at an engineering problem, to come up with unique solutions. This book taught me to look at my Corvette problems, to be inquisitive to learn the maximum of other solutions that are available, to not be afraid to come up with a different idea. It also gave me a starting point to work from. I purchase this book for my son-in-law to help him build his Mustang for SCCA racing. This is a good basic book that touches all aspects for building race cars, easy to read and understand. Still relevant today.

If you know nothing about the subject, the book is a reasonable introduction. However, the book is primarily conceptual and there is very little quantitative information. You are not going to be able to design a racing car after reading this book.

This is the second time I have bought this book. The first time was in the mid 70s and it was great then and still full of information now.

Just what I though it would be..a wonderful reference source for race car fanatic . Super informative and fun to use for street car improvements.

Haven't went through the entire book as of yet. Technically I think it will be good. I am a little disappointed in readability. The pages seem yellow, somewhat hard to read. Text goes from bold to regular font and on a non bright page, makes it a challenge.

First read this book in mid 1970's right after it came out. Forgot about it. Now I am getting it for my grandson. Hope he enjoys it as much as I did 47 years ago.

This is a great book for anyone who has an interest in the development of racing cars from the late fifties to the late seventies. It's easy to understand - even for a technical dolt such as myself - well illustrated with both diagrams and photographs and written in a style which is informative and mostly free from technical jargon. If technical jargon is used it is always explained.If you are looking for information on modern racing car design then you will be disappointed as the time period covered stops well before the age of carbon-fibre composites, active suspensions and computer modelled aerodynamics but, as long as you understand the time period when Len Terry was actively designing racing cars, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

This book is a must read,amazing.

Len was ahead of his time

Really nice book!! I recomend it for all the racing cars lovers that want to know more about the design process of a racing car.
