A companion to Making Bombs for Hitler and The War Below , this novel follows a Ukrainian girl who was kidnapped as a child to be raised by a Nazi family. Nadia is haunted by World War II. Her memories of the war are messy, coming back to her in pieces and flashes she can't control. Though her adoptive mother says they are safe now, Nadia's flashbacks keep coming.Sometimes she remembers running, hunger, and isolation. But other times she remembers living with a German family, and attending big rallies where she was praised for her light hair and blue eyes. The puzzle pieces don't quite fit together, and Nadia is scared by what might be true. Could she have been raised by Nazis? Were they her real family? What part did she play in the war? What Nadia finally discovers about her own history will shock her. But only when she understands the past can she truly face her future.Inspired by startling true events, Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch delivers a gripping and poignant story of one girl's determination to uncover her truth. Review: Great historical fiction for MG readers and adults - This was a great book for middle grade readers who enjoy historical fiction. It was about a 12-year old girl who immigrated to Canada after World War II with her "adoptive" parents, but her memories of her past haunt her dreams as she tries to remember where she originally came from. It loosely ties in with Making Bombs for Hitler. It was a surprising connection for me, but there is no need to read the other book to enjoy this one. Both books opened my eyes to what became of some young children during world war II. I don't want to spoil the book so will not explain what happened in either book. I enjoyed the book as an adult reader and my 13 year old son enjoyed the book as well. (He loves WWII history.) However I would imagine a girl might identify with the character more. Review: Powerful - This book is SO well written. It introduced me to something I had no idea happened. My daughter and I have both fallen in love with the author! All of her books are so AMAZING!

My kids loved it!
13 yr old boy and 11 yr old girl loved this book. They both read Making Bombs for Hitler first - apparently this story builds on to that one. Kids are telling me I need to read both books now.

Amazing
The book was great, but there wasn't much background information. To get the information you need you have to read Stolen Girl.

Incredible Book!
I read this aloud to my 5 children in only 3 sittings, because no one wanted to pause. The book is so well written, and uniquely presents a history I had never been taught or even exposed to. The author deals candidly, but sensitively with the realities of WW2 and its aftermath. I have purchase all of this author's novels. We’ll begin Making Bombs for Hitler this week!
