Hollywood 101: The Film Industry Paperback – Bargain Price, March 2, 2000

Unlike some of the reviewers of this book, unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to meet Mr. Levy but I would like to congratulate him on a book that is truly insightful and provided me with several days of wonderful reading.I don't want to sugarcoat this review but I have read so many books on the film industry and this book did not make me yawn one bit. This book was created for people who want to break into the industry. By no way is the author saying it's easy but the insight to certain industry professions and the professionals he had contribute to this book is remarkable.If you know someone who wants to break into the film industry, I know there are many books out there but purchase this book as a present for that individual. It's hip, informative and definitely not boring.Highly recommended!

I read this book in preparation for my move to LA. It is a perfect book for a film student who isn't sure what department/ career path they want. And also perfect for a newbie in the film industry to choose a career path. It's outlines the major departments in the industry, gives tips and ideas on how to get to what ever career path you want. I recommend this to any one new to the industry or interested in the industry.

My stepdaughter is interested in becoming an actor, but in reality I know how hard that it. This offers insight into a complex industry, and is quite frankly very realistic. It also opens your eyes, to be in Hollywood you don't only have to act.

This book has everything you need to know about Hollywood. What I learned in 4 years at Film School, this book taught me in a week. It's the best book on the topic that I have read.

The unfortunate reality that Hollywood paints is that the only way to achieve success is to use other people as pawns and to set up your client. This book focuses on how to gain power in the BIZ, regardless of whether it’s morally right or wrong. I tend to believe that this is how the majority of the cut throat Hollywood world works; While this is not exactly what we are taught in business school, I find it difficult to argue otherwise and therefore found this book very useful in the right situations. It breaks down the entire industry from jobs, positions, film making, how to break in, what you might expect etc.This book is full of details and It shares experiences of people who are are already in the buisness. This is one of those books which should be light reading for people on the outside who are curious about Hollywood. Not a great resource for someone in the business or just starting to book jobs on film sets. Most of this will have already been rudely crunched into your brain if you are already moving along your film career path. I guess this makes sense with the title being 101. This is a decent quick intro read. If you really want a good resource book, check out DOWN AND DIRTY PICTURES: THE RISE AND FALL OF MIRIMAX.....

A great and useful read, although very old. Helpful hints are things like invest in a mobile phone (they were new) and investigate the internet (it was new).
