Do these have the barcodes on the side of the items, so they can be used to play supermarket?

The cans do not have barcodes. They do, however, have the nutritional information like the cans in the grocery store.

Any idea why these are labeled as 3+? Any safety concerns for 2 year-old?

No idéa why it is labeled for 3+. I didn't know that when I got them for my 2 year old grand-daughter. I don't really see any safety issues.

Can the cans be opened with the Melissa and Doug can opener?

If they are the same ones I got...the lids come off easily and can be put back on. No can opener needed.
