Yes, even without synthetic foaming agents, Alaffia Black Soap creates a rich, creamy lather—especially when used with a loofah or washcloth. A little goes a long way!

Is this soap safe for acne-prone & sensitive skin?

Alaffia Black Soap is handcrafted with fair-trade unrefined shea butter and contains no synthetic fragrance or harsh sulfates. It’s gentle for most skin types, including acne-prone and sensitive skin. Patch testing is still recommended first.

What does it smell like?

The unscented version has a natural, earthy aroma from the raw ingredients like shea butter and neem. If you choose a scented variety, it’s typically lightly fragranced with essential oils—no synthetic perfumes here.

Is Alaffia Black Soap safe for color-treated hair?

While Alaffia Black Soap is made with natural ingredients and free from sulfates and harsh chemicals, it may strip color from dyed hair over time. For color-treated hair, use sparingly or choose a color-safe shampoo designed to protect hair color.

Is this product ethically made?

Alaffia is a social enterprise focused on fair trade, women’s empowerment, and community reinvestment in West Africa. Every purchase helps support maternal care, education, and environmental sustainability initiatives.

No itchy dry skin

Only soap I’ve used for years. Rarely itchy after my shower. Swap the cap with one from a sriracha bottle, better control dispensing and the top doesn’t break off when you knock the bottle over. One the risk of a broken cap and spilling are gone, the bottle stops falling multiple times per shower. There are some studies looking into the phenomena, but my anecdotal experience seems to confirm this change in behavior.

Liquid Black African Soap

Quite expensive for what it is imo. Didn't really lather up as I would of liked. Guessing it's the concentration, not really the right mixture. Going to stick to black african soap I guess.

Amazing..!

My teenage son is allergic to alot of body washes, soaps etc even natural stuff that supposedly has no chemicals so I was sceptical about this but I use the soap bar on his locks so thought why not give it a try. I'm so glad I did not only can he use this for a body wash but also a shampoo, smells amazing, his locks shine and so does his skin. Will be a must have in my bathroom now. 10/10
