Holst The Planets Suite for Orchestra

This Dover score presents everything in a clear and easy-to-read way even though Holst wrote some interesting things that are difficult to notate by ear! The score does open up a new world - listening to it and reading/watching the score are two different things. I was completely unaware of Holst's gigantic forces and his wonderful orchestration that is present in the score.There's no see through on the pages (and where there is, it is only minimal). Main languages are English and Italian terms. For an 80-year old score, it's pretty impressive and in very good condition. A very good buy I must say for $10 - my friend had to pay close to $70 for her copy (both of which are exactly the same). A great bargain!

In my music theory class we were told to find a piece that we would like to study for the semester and so I bought this and I am very pleased with it!

This was a gift for my husband. Although he finds it challenging, he is getting endless pleasure from working on playing the score. He is a thoughtful pianist who has played for a long time but is an amateur.

Excellent score, perfect for what I wanted to use for study purposes both at home for my pleasure and at school for my students.

I've purchased orchestral scores before that have not been legible. This was happily not the case for the Dover Score. I read part of several movements while listening to recorded renditions. I found no errors. Very well done, which made this musical nerd quite happy!

Great book, good price, all in neat print. I really enjoy the Planets and seeing how it's made it amazing (If not a bit terrifying). Jokes aside, it's a great buy for any fan of Holst.

This is one of my favourite pieces of classical music, and as a budding orchestrator I decided to buy the full score for study. I would give the engraving maybe a 9/10; It's very clean and legible, with only a couple slightly faded lines, however it's barely noticeable. I've attached a couple photos so you can get a sense of what the print looks like.
