Well, Round2 is certainly pumping out the releases these days, and milking the Coca-Cola license for all they can! In this case, it's the iconic VW Beetle. Over the years, AMT has done several boxings including open Dune buggy sans VW shell and the Manx. Back to the present, this 1971 bug features the shortened Baja style tub but keep the regular front cap. Ironically the brainchild of Hitler and Ferdinand Porsche, the VW has become a hippie icon. In this boxing, you get the original "1971 rainbow" trim plus a slew of assorted Coke decals, playing on the infamous commercial where they alter the hippie anthem into "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" jingle. AMT sells it as an iconic moment; in reality it set off a hatemail and protest campaign and Coke actually pulled the commercial for a time. Anyway, as far as quality goes, it's one of the cleanest AMT moulds I've seen - not too much flash, and no sink marks or ejector marks in irritating places. Of course, there is a rollcage included, with an extra section for the open dune buggy version. The Manx engine, favoured by customizers over the weak and inefficient VW one, fits the bill. There are numerous tire and body options such as street, dune and drag. You even get a cute cardboard display case to showcase it on. A great little kit; very pleasantly surprised! Recommended fer sure dude.
