MATHMOS Telstar (Black-Blue/Green)

Wanted something to place on top of my piano whilst trying to learn to play. Initially purchased one of the jellyfish bubble lamps but wasn't impressed so returned it. This rocket lava lamp from Mathmos, the original lava lamp makers is quite a bit more expensive than other ones I've seen but is extremely well made. The components are of quality materials and have a good weight. The chrome has a nice polished finish and a clear transparent electrical cord with an inline on off switch, the lamp comes very well packaged, and looks absolutely stunning on top of my smart Yamaha piano. Took about 2 hrs to really get going and exceeds all my expectations. When learning my piano I have a few minutes rest now and then to give my fingers a chance to recover from all the stretching so I just sit back and watch the lava lamp. It is so mesmerising and relaxing to watch. I would not have it within children's reach as it get quite hot to touch and the glass bottle doesn't seem to be very secure which could easily be knocked over. Also I wish you could have it on for more than the recommended 6 hrs as it takes at least a couple of hours to get going. The included 2 bulbs are 28w halogen gu10, similar to what you would have in your ceiling and is more than adequate. I have read reviews where some say 28w isn't hot enough, but I find that this is not the case, could possibly be referring to older models. This review is for the violet and red Telstar rocket lamp in chrome and comes highly recommended. Hope this information helps.

These are built to last. You can feel the quality when you take them out of the box. They work wonderfully and look great.

Classic product and original

Very disappointed. Lamp looks great but every bulb I've tried lasts a few hours then blows. Faulty item and sadly I left it too long to get a refund. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AT ALL.

Mathmos have the best customer service I have experienced for a long time. Our lamp arrived without a bulb, and with no questions asked they sent two out immediately. We love our Mathmos lamp, having had a cheaper knock off one blow up on us! Highly recommended, beware of cheap imitations. And even better, I hadn’t realised they were made in Britain.

But annoyingly the bulb has failed already, not impressed with the reliability of it. I'm guessing that a bulb is a consumable item so I doubt I'll get it replaced under warranty.

This is my first Lava Lamp. I was not sure how good it would be but i really liked the idea and having read reviews on various brands available opted for the Mathmos. Some other brands just seem cheep and cheerful and likely to be dangerous or fall apart - probably both reading many of the reviews. Anyway this is a present for my son in Hospital and there will be a lot of effort to get it to him with planes, trains, boats and autombilles so last thing i wanted was for it to break within a few days of getting it there. I therefore played safe and whilst it is more expensive opted for the Telstar given the quality and robustness everyone seems to report. I have had it running around 4 hours now and feel compelled to write a review (i buy loads from Amazon but rarely if ever write reviews). Well what can i say. Wow it's just fantastic. It's excellent quality, a great design and it looks like it will last for years and years. It's just what i wanted and i'm so pleased i found this on Amazon. It works really very well. So much better than i expected it to and it makes me smile every time i turn it on. Give it an hour or so in a warm room and its fabulous. I like the fact i can buy a replacement glass bottle or different colour without needing a whole new lamp. Really pleased its made in Britain as well. As said this one is for my son in Hospital and will help him relax and cheer him up but im sure i will be buying another for my daughter soon. Great service. Ordered on Monday late evening. Despatched following morning. Arrived Thursday to Isle of Man. For mainland delivery it would have been a day quicker. Cant recomend highly enough.

Awesome colours, looks great.My concern is how the glass container with the liquid in is not secure or stable I have carefully moved it and nearly dropped it. For the money and the name I am very disappointed
