MTG Magic the Gathering 2014 Duel Deck SPEED vs. CUNNING

Like the previous reviewer stated, it initially seemed like the Speed deck would outrun Cunning at first. After several games, it's apparent that the Cunning deck is clearly the stronger, especially if an experienced control player is at the helm.The problem seemed to be that Speed relied too much on the strength of the initial hand and setting up an army of goblin tokens, whereas Cunning just focuses on staying alive until they have game winning card advantage. Ironically, the speed deck usually just takes too long to get going. As for the featured cards: if Arcanis shows up, it's basically over. The same can't be said for Zurgo. He will be in range of Lightning Helix until he gets buffed at least twice, at which point he can still just be bounced back and countered or locked down, sometimes for the rest of the game.That said, still a pretty good buy. Both decks are reasonably fun to play, and introduce players to some of the new mechanics in Khans. The pack also has reprints of some pretty valuable cards if you end up buying it just to gut it. Plus, the new Arcanis art is badass.

Got the package in today, very nice shipping speed.So after playing 5 games back to back with these, surprisingly the cunning deck won every time. I don't know, when I looked at the decks initially, it seemed like the speed deck would overrun the cunning deck all day, but no. Had 2 games that lasted about an hour, the other 3 were just sad, lol the cunning deck seemed to just mow down the speed deck and counter every move it had.Both decks come with some good cards, I've always been a fan of Arcanis, and Krenko was nice as well. The speed deck comes with a lot of cards that fit my play style, and I will be gutting it to make some additions to another token based deck I've already created. Also really liked the Lightning Angel, a 3/4 for 4 with flying, vigilance and haste is awesome.All in all I don't think that it was evenly matched, seeing as how the speed deck was never able to do more than 12 damage before the cunning deck could come back for the win. Not bad for 17 bucks though, I'm happy.

Ever since I started getting used to Magic this was probably one of my best buys aside from the bulk buy of 500 cards...One friend of mine consistently uses the Cunning deck for the power to negate/redirect/etc to turn the game in his favor.While I personally enjoy the swarm effect Krenko, Mob Boss brings to the table I've won games just by sheer numbers.Cunning is made to counter everything Speed has to offer while Speed tries to get out everything it can before it gets stopped.If you've got even a day of experience playing MTG you should buy this and push comes to shove you switch out cards in either deck to better suit you.

these decks are fun to play against. I bought these to play casually with my wife. nothing is too overpowered and the decks seem pretty evenly matched, however this may vary from person to person.

Well balanced decks. I was using this as an introduction to the game and for that it would benefit from clearer instructions.

I loved all the cards in these decks. They are an awesome addition to my collection. Plus I was able to beat both of my nephews with these decks. They have been playing Magic for many years.

This product is of very little, if any, use to serious MTG players. However, if you are a casual player and collector like me, then I believe you are going to enjoy this product.In terms of playability, a lot of people in the comments section here claim that the blue deck is overall more powerful than the red deck, but this is untrue in my opinion. From my experience, after playing a series of games with both decks, me and my friend have concluded that the red deck just appears to be dominant due to its strong early performance. Whatever people think, there is clearly an imbalance in this duel set. Be it as it may, the product will deliver some enjoyment to you and a friend.In terms of pricing this product disappoints me a little. The priciest card on this set at the time of this review is Krenko, Mob Boss, according to trolltradercards,com at the price of ~£3.12. The rest of the cards have very little value. This tells me that you would be able to replicate these decks by buying the individual cards for an overall incredibly reduced price. I suspect that it would be a lot more worth it buying the box and leaving it sealed for collection. It could potentially become a lot more expensive as did the Goblins Vs Elves Duel Decks. Other than that I see no other reason to buy this set, unless you are feeling lazy and don't feel like going through all the trouble of buying the individual cards.

Not the most useful of cards but a fun themed battle to play out which is relatively even and good for casual play or teaching a new friend

Still one of the best games out there. These duel decks let you start playing as soon as you open them!
