Great introduction to economics - both micro and macro.
This is an excellent book to read to get a good overview of economics. I found that the author is good at explaining the limitations of the models presented and when they are and are not useful. He also presents the various controversies in economics (eg minimum wage) without any obvious ideological bias.I came away from reading the book with a good toolkit of models and the knowledge of when they can be used. This was exactly what I was after. My main complaint is that the material on macroeconomics is pretty boring. But I think that comes with the territory. And as the author says Macroeconomics as a discipline is in a quite primitive state, so you need to have realistic expectations.

Unbiased, Reader-Friendly
I took microeconomics from one of Greg's former colleagues at UW-Madison and this book is very unbiased, doesn't tell you how to form your normative views, and is extremely user friendly. I am an engineer and took this class for fun my last semester and it was probably the most interesting class I ever took in college.

The Law Of Demand And Supply
It is an outstanding textbook that teaches the basis of microeconomics. By reading it I believe acing each exam and earn 100 in each test is an opportunity. The "law of demand and supply" is what motivates and influences everything in human society.

Why would a textbook get a 5 star review?
Because it's well written, interesting and allows you to learn the material without being bored to death. There's always funny examples in the text and some thought provoking sidebars. All in all, if your class requires this book, don't be afraid of the class!

Pair it With Another Principles Text(Bias is Distracting)
I toyed with the idea of giving this text 2 stars but I like to give the benefit of the doubt. As a very analytical reader, I prefer to read authoritative texts which absent of doubt that they are free from the tarnish that biased pen might bring. I knew nothing of Mankiw but it took one reading session for me to question whether or not this author was injecting politics into academia or the other way around. It disheartened me especially knowing that there are impressionable undergraduates that may have this be their initial introduction to micro/macro theory and in doing so may be robbed of the opportunity to mold their own beliefs but for the influence of Mankkiw's evident partisanship. Anyone familiar with the author's press will not be surprised but I believe academia should be unbiased and not an attempt to indoctrinate budding minds with ones political beliefs (or partisan normative analysis cloaked in cleverly worded positive statements.) The audacity of the text to insinuate that the author "perhaps" persuade the reader that the economist's view is the right one (after qualifying that most economists hold his views) is a bit laughable as there is no perhapsing about it.To redeem this very present flaw (aside from sly insinuations such as the one regarding lack of consensus on climate science paralleled to lack of consensus on economic theory) I would like to say that the book is a treasure trove of information. Which warrants tether extra star. Open ended questions that help the student think practically and apply concepts to their everyday life are a high light. The subject content is clearly laid out. As the old adage goes though; it isn't what you say, but how you say it.The partisanship became very distracting as I read and I found myself having to order a supplemental text "Economics" by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells which depending on who you ask is the left wing antithesis to Mankiw's offering. I would highly recommend that avid readers and serious students of the subject pair this book with another to balance out the sway to the right and to then use what you've learned to conjecture and theorize within the confines of appropriate and informed boundaries relevant to your level of study. In educational pursuits balance and objectivity should come above all if truth doesn't inform consensus. In cases such as this where a subject by its very nature lays within the confines of the positive end of the time line, the best one may hope for is a two texts which complement one another. Regardless of how you are aligned ideologically, you would benefit from referencing between this text and another less biased one; particularly, I would imagine, in the first half of the book where microeconomics and key foundational concepts are introduced.I do not think it is a bad text from a content context; it's effective as is muddied by its partisanship and for a textbook that's worth the loss of 2 stars. Academia is a sacred institution not to be defiled by hubris filled attempts at subtle indoctrination.

Perfect
As I hardly give feedback about product (This is my first time, to be honest), this time should be an exception.Thank you for your great deal of services, fast delivery and trustful process. The book is just good as well-known, dealing with all basic economics issues providing ample explanations and examples. It will be a guidebook for those interested in economics and have no such relevant backgrounds. The only thing is that the book is sonewhat inclined to the capitalism and thus the readers are required to have their own objective stance at the rationality of his argument for sound judgement.
