Review: Mind blowing. Amazing insights. Get it before you give your girls an iPad or smart phone and realize maybe you should have waited another year or set different boundaries/expectations. Glad to have it in my arsenal of resources to help me navigate the tween, teen and college years. Most surprising aspects: Data does NOT support the ill-informed misconception that starting a child young in ONE particular sport gives them a head start of being an elite athlete in that sport. It actually predisposes them to often severe repeat motion injuries (because the muscles and therefore body is not balanced using a variety of muscles doing a variety of sports). The recommendation: make sure your child does not specialize in any one sport/activity until further body development occurs, around age 13 -15. Review: I had the pleasure of recording an interview with Dr. Sax recently and I understood everything he said. I immediately bought all three of his books. This book like his others is full of practical information that needs to be implemented asap. Dr. Sax's books offer parents and our children hope for a better child/parent relationship.
