Powers on with Vizio TV remote - ONLY IF you know the secret
I've only had the sound bar for a few days. Set up was easy (I used the optical cable provided) and the bar detected the TV when powered on. I still had sound from the TV so I went into the TV's settings to turn off the TV speakers and set digital audio out to "PCM". I then noticed that the sound was not in time with people speaking so I adjusted the "lip sync" setting until it matched up. I also played around with surround sound and equalizer settings. I had previously boosted anything and everything that I could in order to be able to understand what people were saying using the TV speakers. I found that my previous settings were not needed for the soundbar and went back to more flat settings. Just personal preference, but I turned surround sound off as I have a surround system that we use when watching movies, etc. I could connect my subwoofer to the sound bar but really don't feel that it's needed as bass is sufficient without it. Everything worked well and everyone in the family agreed that the sound was a huge improvement over the TV speakers. I was able to turn the soundbar on and adjust the volume with both the (older model) Vizio TV remote and my Verizon FIOS remote that had previously been programmed to work with the TV (with no changes needed). HOWEVER, the next day neither the TV remote nor the FIOS remote would turn on the soundbar. It was a Sunday and I couldn't reach Vizio support so I ran through the programming instructions in the Quick Start Manual with no success. I even did a factory reset using the same instructions, again with no success. Today, I was able toreach Vizio customer support. After confirming my setup (cable used, etc) I was told that on and off could only be controlled by using an HDMI cable. I pointed out that the soundbar does not have an HDMI input. The representative then told me that in that case, I would only be able to control volume, not power on and off. I directed them to the manual that does indeed say this is the case for a NON VIZIO TV remote but on the next page shows power on and volume settings for Vizio TV remotes. At this point I was put on hold so that they could speak with the technical team. When they returned they said that they understood my issue but that they could not guarantee that the feature would work. I asked to be able to speak with someone from the technical team. Once connected, I was told all the same things that I'd already heard. I explained again that the feature worked for one day and then stopped. The rep told me again that they couldn't guarantee that the feature would work. At that point I asked how to go about getting a replacement. I was told that the soundbar produced sound, so there was nothing wrong with it from their perspective and that they would not consider replacing it. So again, I asked to speak to someone with more authority. {I know by now that you are probably asking yourself two questions, the first one being why is this review so long. I apologize but stay with me and you'll understand. The second question is how on earth can this be a positive review. Well, here goes.} I explained my situation to the representative once again. He instructed me to turn on the TV and I did. He then said hit the volume button. Low and behold, the soundbar came on! In summary, I don't care that the soundbar doesn't come on with the power button on the remote, only that I don't need two remotes to make it work. Maybe I should be concerned that it did power on with the TV remote for a day and then stopped but at this point I'm willing to give it a shot. Maybe it's just me but I still trust the Vizio brand more than the no-name brands i see listed for similar prices. I am absolutely satisfied with the sound quality and looks of the soundbar. I just wish that the first person that I spoke to had said to hit the volume button. It would have saved me (and now you) quite a bit of time and frustration. BTW, the soundbar will turn off after a few minutes with no input. This happens when you turn off the TV. It also happens after a few minutes if you pause or mute the TV. When you un-mute or un-pause the TV just hit the volume button to wake it up again. I hope this helps.

Great Soundbar for the price! Some misconceptions from questions answered, though.
First of all, I ordered this soundbar for my bedroom TV. I didn't need a sub-woofer there. I had bought a Vizio TV and figured that there wouldn't be any problems with compatibility... and there isn't. I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase. No problems and the sound is very good. I almost didn't order it because of some answers to questions and some 1-Star votes. Let me clear up some of the misinformation about this soundbar. First, many people asked if the soundbar would work with their cable box remote. Even the seller said "No"! This is not exactly true. My cable provider. like most, provides a universal programmable remote. You simply program your TV to the cable box remote. If you do this... then the volume control for the soundbar is linked to your tv, which is linked to your cable box remote. So yes, if you have this capability on your cable box remote... it will control your volume. (Increasing the bass and treble will have to be done on the soundbar remote). Secondly, there were many 1-Star reviews stating that the sound was no louder than that of their TV alone. There are only 2 reasons for this - 1) the soundbar was defective or 2) and the most probable, it was hooked up improperly or simple user error. If you use the optic connection, make sure your audio on the TV is set to PCM. I can tell you, that with my experience with this soundbar, both the TV I have now and the one I replaced - the average listening level was 58-62. With this soundbar, I have an average listening level of 18-22, to get the same level of volume. If I crank it up to 58 - it will blow out the bedroom. So by comparison, the soundbar is more than double the volume of the TV. I hope this helps some people with making their decision. If you need a simple 2.0 soundbar with a great sound... this is it!

Good Low End Sound Bar
First I would like to say that this sound bar is a very good choice for low cost 4k or HD TVs (under $400). There's no sense to putting high end speakers on a low end TV (even though yesterdays high end is today's low end). It does improve sound vs the TV's back firing speakers. However there are some quirks that annoy.First, the control switches are on the top. This doesn't make sense if you mount the sound bar on and below the TV, you can't reach the switches (yes you could lower the sound bar an inch or so lower, but ugh!).Second, you can learn your TV's volume control (non VIZIO) but you can't learn the Off/On control (non VIZIO). So if you want to turn on the sound bar, you have to use the sound bar's remote. (There is an auto off mode with idle.)Thirdly, there's no way is the audio response (per manual) is 70 - 20,000 Hz, OK maybe the -100 db points :) This sound bar is only midrange. Not much bass, some treble.Fourthly, You need to get/use the sound bar into a stereo mode. As video, streaming, and other sources change, the sound quality changes drives me crazy. Apparently, you can end up with good in phase sound (front stereo image) and extra strong amplified out of phase audio (background sound). UGH! You can't really consistently get a 4 speaker sound from 2 speakers.Summary, this sound bar is a reasonably addition to a low end bedroom TV, But I would not slightly consider it for a entertainment center.

Could not have asked for more
I really am loyal to Sharp TVs. I've owned many since they first came out. I've never been disappointed with any of them, but there is one thing I've never adjusted to. The speakers. They don't really work well with any amount of background noise. That is why I bought this sound bar. This is my second Vizio, and this one is just as good as the other. Full, rich sound at all levels. An excellent remote. Easy to set up. Comes with an optical plug, which is the best way to go for the best sound quality. It just looks nice, and just blends in with the TV.Best value for the money. Well worth the investment.
