Saw this by accident, looks useful for fixing many items, but how does one use it...? Can't tell from image.
can I use any thread or do I have to use waxed thread?
What size needle is included with this? A number 2? A number 4? A number 8?
Where is it made?

You can buy this tool even if you only need it once

This tool was to replace one I got while in the Navy, 40+ years ago. The original never wore out, I just lent it to someone and it never came back. The quality of the new one is 90% as good as the original, with some of the metal parts simply being a smidgen lighter weight but which I believe will last just fine. For me, this is a tool I might go a year or two between uses but then use 2-3 times in a single week... that's just how your odd jobs come along sometimes. You can really make a nice and quality repair to a host of different products with this tool and if you ever run out of thread in the middle of a project, just get some dental floss and finish the job, the stitcher works just fine with floss as a replacement until you can buy another spool of waxed string. Good tool at a fair price, anyone can use it and with a little practice get very good results with one. Watch a you tube video if your trying yours for the first time and the instruction manual seems confusing.

Sturdy stitching!

If you need a way to repair something that takes a lot of wear and tear, this works well. I used to use these when I was a backpacking guide. I lost my first one and got a new one to repair a dog toy. It withstands the crazy play time of my 2 labs. And if your a lab owner, you know that's some hard core playing.

Works great!

This worked really well on a deer hide. Very easy to use.Hint: on the first hole you make, when bringing the string through, make sure the end is long enough to go the entire length of the stitching you're going to do, plus an inch or two. Also, after each stitch, take the time to pull evenly from both sides as you go, it will hold better and look neater. The awl-like form is great because you can pull it against your stomach or push against a table, whatever you need to do to get the force needed. And the needle stays in your control so you don't get stabbed or scratched. Very cool.

This is a GREAT tool...

For the price. Awls are VERY sharp, everything that's supposed to be tight, hold etc, does. Fits nicely in the hand. My only complaint is mine has some tear out where the thread goes from the bobbin and in through the body to the awl eye and the metal piece on the wooden body is slightly off center making it kinda hard to thread.Take the extra threw seconds to clean up your holes, company.

Great tool. Just needs better directions.

I needed to fix a couple lawn chairs and knew there must be some sort of tool available, since the chairs would not fit in my sewing machine. After a lengthy Google search, I found this speedy stitcher sewing awl. Thinking it would be a breeze to use, I ordered it and waited until the last possible minute to fix the chairs. Well.....after I failed three times, I watched a youtube video (3 times) and FINALLY caught on. Usually I'm a faster learner, but there was a learning curve here that took time.It was worth the time it took, because I was able to fix the lawn chairs and they are possibly more sturdy now than they were when new. The thread that comes with the sewing awl is heavy duty, waxed thread, and it appears like it will last for the life of the chairs. This awl comes with 2 needles: a straight one, which I used, and one with a curve. Only one spool of thread is included, but I would suggest ordering a back up spool to have on hand in case you run out in the middle of a project. The one drawback are the directions that come in the package. They state the steps to using the sewing awl, but there isn't quite enough development of the steps to make the directions completely clear. Youtube was a great help to me.

You need this

Okay, maybe you don't NEED this. Maybe you have disposable income. Maybe, you can simply throw your old items away and replace them with newer ones.Or, maybe, you've grown somewhat attached to certain items and you want to prolong the life of them as best you can. Then, you do really need the Speedy Stitcher.Qualifier: I don't know how to sew.I plucked the Speedy Stitcher out of it's case, read the three step instructions, and in 8 minutes had effectively repaired one of my favorite leather belts that would otherwise have gone in the trash.Replacing the belt would've cost me $39. The Speedy Stitcher, out of the box with plenty of thread, cost less than half of that. And, now, I can see that over the years, the Speedy Stitcher will see occasional use for equipment or clothing repair, and will pay for itself many times over. The Speedy Stitcher is well made (Made in the USA no less), simple to use, and requires one bit of knowledge: how to tie a square not. You'll need this to finish your stitches. Will it do a pretty sewing job? No.Will it allow you to make a prom dress? No.Will you be able to precisely reassemble your Manolo Blahnik fashion shoes? Not a chance. What it will do is keep your hunting boots from finally giving out, your heavy canvas from ripping entirely apart, reassemble your rucksack straps in the middle of nowhere, and other countless heavy-duty repairs. They won't look pretty, but for field-expedient repairs, this is such a portable, simple tool, you'd be a fool to not throw one in your tackle box, tool box, or camping kit.Or, maybe you're made of money.

Well made, works better than the others.

I bought a similar product because it was cheaper and had accessories. It was not well made and had no tension control. So I ordered the Speedy Stitcher and it is much better. I wish I had ordered it originally. The thread is a heavier waxed thread and is better for thick leather.
