Software / Cable worked at first try, now can't sync anymore

*by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2014*

The first problem w/ sync of a blood glucose tester is that in the absence of an agreed API every engineer is going to reinvent the wheel and do the job his own way; therefore every meter will have it's own protocol for downloading the data; and the software must be custom written for each meter to read. Glooko supports 30 to 40 of the most popular meters having wired output jacks, including the Ultra2, which I currently use - and it says it is working on the next generation of Bluetooth supporting meters. The second problem is what platform to use to capture the data. I like Glooko's choice of Android & IOS phones and tablets for many reasons most especially that they are fully as mobile as the devices they read. After cleaning up my overfilled system memory, I was able to load the "Glooko" software into the NX008HD8G (marketed by Walmart as a knockoff of the Google Nexus Android tablet). Using the somewhat overpriced cable from Glooko, in one minute I was able to download over 300 meter readings; and in another minute, to email myself the readings in csv format. So far, so good.UPDATE: Last week I was able to download hundreds of data items successfully as described above. Today - 7 days Iater - I went to download further data, accumulated in the meantime, and unlike the first time the software and the meter cannot sync with the meter, and no data is forthcoming.UPDATE: Caveat Emptor

Works as described but does not do much

*by R***K on Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2014*

Let me start by saying if you are purchasing this item just to get your readings on paper or email from an IR type meter like the Accu-check nano meter like I own it works. But to me it is just a history of where I have been over time. Which to me gives me nothing. Lets face it your endocrinologist can do that with any meter in their office. However if you are testing to see how a specific food or meal effects you, You would either have to hook up and down load after the test is complete or down load after each finger prick. And I want to see my results now. So I prefer my smart phone and the Android app My Diabetes. At a quick glance I can see where I am at any moment, how much active insulin I have in my system. What meds I have taken that day and when. When and how much was my last insulin shot and what type. How many cabs I have eaten, all from the basic log entry screen. Not to mention many different types of graphs so I can see in color where I am at any time and everything can be either shared or emailed. So until they make a blood meter that attaches to my smart phone (cause it is with me always) I will use an Android app and do the manual entry thing

Works, button is hard to press

*by S***N on Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2014*

This worked well enough for me and was able to transfer information to my phone.I gave it four stars because:1: the button is hard to press for me, so I can only imagine how hard it would be for an elderly person2: no iOS support: I realize they sell it as an android accessory, but it connects through the headphone jack which all phones have. I was ticked off that I couldn't transfer data to my iPhone and that I had to buy a separate cable to do that.3: No way to prevent data from being uploaded to the cloud -- sorry, don't trust companies or government to believe that they don't look at my data. What I did like was that the cable is just the right length and it came with an adapter for my ReliON meter. So far I've synced weekly since I got it and the battery seems to be holding up.Will update as time goes by...
