This album, after their "ground-breaking", "hit", "smash", "top-selling" double album Mello Collie needed to be either a totally different album or more of the same. I guess it's both. I am not sure but it is definitely different. If you expect to hear more songs like "Zero" or "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" forget about it. This album has much more refined emotions and ideas and is a beautiful thing. It is very enjoyable and touching to see the lighter side of the Pumpkins when it is not just a song or two on an album. They purge their quiet side on this album and do it exquisitely. Like many albums that are different by an artist, you may not like it at first (as did I)but after the second time through you realize the difference which is just as good as the previous songs they produced.

I really love the style of "Adore", and the singles for "Ava Adore". In my opinion, the best song on this single is "Once In A While", but the other two songs are really beautiful works of art as well. Billy Corgan has shown the world that he can make any kind of music, and make it sound excellent. Not only has he mastered songwriting, and the guitar, but the piano as well. I consider Billy Corgan to be the "Mozart" of modern alternative music. This is one man who has really accomplished it all. I strongly recommend that if you are a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins, or a fan of alternative music in general, go pick up "Adore", along with this singles, and I promise you'll like it.

A great single. "Ava Adore" sounds great. It's rawkin' strings and techno icing sets you up with a thrill ride of lyrical and musical magic. "Czarina" is a beautiful acoustic song which speaks a beautifuly heartbreaking story that Corgan is so good at telling. One of my favorite Adore-era songs is found on this single. "Once and a While" offers a very soothing, sorrowful, yet mellow song. It, IMO, sums up a lot of what the band was going through during Adore. Corgan's voice cracks with fatigue and weariness as he sings, "You'll try to care once and a while for me. But I will be there once and a while, more then a while fore you." It roots back to Adore's "Annie Dog". A must have for any TRUE Smashing Pumpkins fan.

It is understanable why these tracks were left off adore. They lack the electronica felling the rest of adore had. But that is a good thing, the non-cd tracks have that my blue heavn (from aero plane flies high) feel, Beautiful piano/acoustic ballds that take you to place inside your self that can either make you feel good or sad depending where it takes you. Definly the type of songs you lose yourself in and hope they never end. I am amazed these tracks didn't make it on a full cd but they are worth any price by them selves.

This is why I like the Smashing Pumpkins! The title track of course is the savage "Ava Adore", but the real reason, as all the reviews below say, to buy this CD is the 2 bonus tracks. "Czarina" and "Once In A While" are absolutely amazing love songs which, were it not for Billy's nasal voice, would not sound one bit like Pumpkins' songs! It's that ability to morph into new forms which makes them, in my opinion, THE best rock band of the 1990's. Grab this CD while you can!
