The thermometer performs a self-test on power up. Measurement methods: - Rectal, this is the most precise method from a medical point of view, because it is closer to body temperature. The tip of the thermometer must be inserted carefully into the rectum for a maximum of 2 cm. Measurement time is usually around 40 to 60 seconds. - Axillary: The positioning of the thermometer under the armpit provides a measurement of the surface temperature that can have a difference between 0.5 ° C and 1.5 ° C compared to rectal temperature readings in adults. Measurement time with this method is usually around 80 to 120 seconds. It should be noted, however, that an exact reading cannot be obtained if, for example, the underarms have been allowed to cool. In this case it is advisable to extend the measurement time by approximately 5 minutes to obtain the most accurate reading possible, corresponding as much as possible to the body temperature. - Oral: There are different areas of heat in the mouth. As a general rule, the oral temperature is between 0.3 ° C and 0.8 ° C lower than the rectal temperature. To ensure the highest possible accuracy, place the tip of the thermometer to the left or right of the tongue root. The tip of the thermometer must have constant contact with the tissue during reading and must be placed under the tongue in one of the two heat pockets on the back, keeping the mouth closed during reading and breathing regularly with the nose. Do not eat or drink anything before measuring. Measurement time is usually around 50 to 70 seconds. Note: The rectal method is recommended as the most accurate method for identifying the basal temperature, and we recommend extending the measurement time by 3 minutes after the sound signal.
